Lela's Story

Thanks to the generosity of donors like you, we help thousands of people each Thanksgiving season -- people like Lela.

A single mom with few places to turn for housing, she found herself in a dangerous situation. A roommate's brother was drinking heavily and threatening her and her autistic son. Police told her to find emergency shelter.

Fortunately, Samaritan House offered mother and son a warm and safe place to stay -- and much more.

Lela only wanted to be a good parent to her son. The staff at Samaritan House helped her create a plan for a fresh start. They helped her find the right school for her son, connected her with healthcare resources and enabled her to apply for affordable housing.

Will you help more families like Lela and her son this Thanksgiving? Please consider a gift of $25 or more. A monthly gift will help provide meals, shelter and services year-round to all who turn to Catholic Charities shelters -- including the new Samaritan House Women's Shelter (the largest women-only shelter in Denver).

More Ways to Give

Consider sharing the warmth and blessings of Thanksgiving this year by donating a frozen turkey to feed the hungry! Drop-off locations are conveniently located at Catholic Charities shelters along the Front Range.
