A Message from Larry Smith, CEO of Catholic Charities of Denver

For the seventh consecutive year, "Team Samaritan House" will bike in Colorado’s Ride the Rockies event to help fund Catholic Charities’ homeless shelters. Ride the Rockies is Colorado’s premier cycling event covering between 400 – 500 miles and 30,000 vertical feet each year. The event is widely followed by the Colorado media.

Team Samaritan House was created by Catholic Charities board member Tom Schwein and his cycling partner Tom Dea to help raise awareness of the need to fight homelessness. Each year,
the team has grown in riders and passion. This year we anticipate 40+ volunteer riders fundraising for Catholic Charities shelters. All riders are faithful to this cause and have committed to fundraise a minimum of $1,500 each. Over the past six years, Team Samaritan House has raised over $375,000 for Catholic Charities homeless shelter.

Over the past two years, Team Samaritan House has been a collaborative partner with the Denver Post Community Foundation who founded Ride the Rockies 31 years ago. This partnership has allowed Team Samaritan House the ability to increase awareness and donations thereby affording us the opportunity to establish and grow our mission. Due to a very harmonious partnership, our presence and fundraising efforts continue to grow and we look forward to working with them again in 2017.

The ultimate goal of all Charities’ shelters is to help residents become self-reliant by providing needed individualized assistance. For fiscal year 2015-2016, 199,459 nights of shelter were provided and approximately 731,751 meals were served at Samaritan House homeless shelter.

God Bless,

Larry Smith
President and CEO of Catholic Charities

The Denver Post Ride The Rockies (RTR) is an annual bicycle tour that takes 2,000 cyclists, assisted by more than 100 volunteers, on a 6-7 day ride through Colorado’s Rocky Mountains each June. Money raised by Team Samaritan House helps provide warm beds and meals to the people served each night at the Samaritan House homeless shelter.

A major thanks to our partners and sponsors!
